We are working to replace five valves near the West Heath roundabout in Farnborough.
This work was due to take place in two phases during the school summer holiday period between Monday, 5 August and Wednesday, 4 September 2024, to reduce the impact locally.
The first phase of work to replace four of the five valves required a road closure on the southbound stretch of the B3014 from West Heath Road to Southwood Road and is nearing completion ahead of children returning to schools after the summer holidays.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen drainage issues, we were unable to complete the whole project during this period, with the decision taken to postpone the second phase of work to avoid impacting traffic as children return to school following the summer break.
There is no new date yet for the second phase of the work, which will require a road closure and diversion for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and our workforce.
The road closure will be in both directions on Fleet Road, on the junction with the West Heath roundabout, with a diversion in place via the B3014, A327 and A325.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the project and we will provide further updates on the second phase of the works in due course.
All motorists are advised to follow the diversion signs and routes, and avoid using other local routes which are not suitable for diverted traffic.
Project updates
Monday, 2 September
We have now replaced the four valves in the first phase of the project, and we are now clearing the site.
Once completed, we will make the area ready to use again, with the traffic management due to be removed tomorrow evening (Tuesday).
The second phase of the project has been postponed and we will provide further updates on this in due course.
Wednesday, 28 August
We would like to apologise for the delay to the completion of phase one of these vital works, due to unforeseen drainage issues. We have resolved this issue by using tankers to remove the water from site and will be exchanging the remaining three valves from phase one today. We are aiming to complete this phase of the project by the end of this week, with the working area returned to its original state allowing us to reopen the road.
As a result of these delays, we have made the decision to postpone phase two of the works to avoid impacting traffic as children return to school after the summer break. We have not yet confirmed a new date for this phase of works and will update as soon as we have a new programme.
Thursday, 22 August
Due to unforeseen drainage issues, we have not yet been able to complete the replacement of three valves in the first phase of our project.
As a result, the road closure on the southbound stretch of the B3014 and diversion route via the A325, A327 and B3014 will remain in place over the bank holiday weekend, with the first phase set to continue until next week.
The closure of Fleet Road in both directions is now expected to commence on Thursday, 29 August, with a smaller diversion route in place for the second phase of the work, via the B3014, A327 and A325.
