In 2025, essential work will be undertaken at the Upper Halling Service Reservoir site to facilitate inspection and maintenance scheduled for spring next year. This vital scheme is expected to be completed early in the new year.
As part of the project and to ensure continuity of supply for our customers, we will be installing an additional reinforced concrete storage tank at the site. This tank will serve as a substitute water storage during the inspection and cleaning of the current reservoir.
Construction of the extra tank will ensure that the area is better equipped to handle potential challenges or disruptions to the water supply. This proactive approach aligns with our commitment to maintain reliable and secure water supply for our customers.
We are working with Medway Highways to establish the most viable solutions for traffic management due to the nature of the lanes around our site as we are aware that people use them as an alternative route when there are issues on the nearby A228.
This webpage will be updated as work progresses.
We need to carry out essential maintenance on our existing drinking water storage tank at Upper Halling Service Reservoir. This tank holds fresh drinking water before it heads to our customers’ taps. In order to do this without interrupting supply, we’re building a new tank to keep customers in supply while we do this. Once the new tank has been brought into service, we’ll take the existing one out to upgrade it.
We are finalising the programme of works but expect construction on the new tank to begin in August 2024. The whole project is expected to be completed by March 2025.
We are not anticipating the need for any road closures, as all work will be contained within our existing site. Details of this will be made available on the Upper Halling Upgrade webpage once confirmed.
There should be no interruption to your water supply. We will not be taking the existing storage tank out of service until the new one is operational. Once all work is complete, the new tank will provide additional support during peak periods of demand for water.
While this work will see extra capacity at our service reservoir, this project alone will not prevent those issues. It will provide extra support during peak periods of water demand, but recent issues have been caused by a number of factors.
However, work is approaching completion at our brand-new Water Treatment Works in Aylesford which will be supporting the local supply area with 20 million litres of fresh drinking water every day.
