October 2024 saw the start of a vital £210,000 project to replace a section of water main on Turners Mill Road in Haywards Heath. The work is part of our ongoing commitment to improving water quality and reliability for the community, following some water quality issues in the area which is unacceptable.

This project, which will see 385 metres of new pipe installed, is designed to prevent these issues from recurring, ensuring that residents have access to a consistent supply of top quality drinking water. The work will involve laying new sections of water mains and replacing smaller branches that feed into cul-de-sacs from the main road.

The work will be split into two phases which will fall either side of Christmas 2024:

Phase One:

Phase one will started at the junction with Harlands Road in October 2024 and will take place up to No.34 Turners Mill Road. This section is planned will take approximately nine weeks as we lay down new sections of water main.

A road closure on the Harlands Road end of the street will be in place until Monday 11 November. However, residents will have access to their homes from the Penland Road end of Turners Mill Road.

We will stop all work over the festive period, ensuring no disruption during this time. The team will fully demobilise and return in the new year to continue.

Phase Two:

Phase two will begin in early January and will take around nine weeks to complete. This phase will be undertaken between Penland Road junction and No. 70 Turners Mill Road will include work to replace a smaller branch of pipe into Turners Mil Close.

A road closure will be required for this phase of the work. However, access for residents will always be maintained from the south as Penland Road junction will be closed to through traffic

Specific dates for the Christmas break will be updated on this page once confirmed.

Minimising Disruption

We understand that roadworks can be disruptive, so we’re doing everything we can to minimise inconvenience. Where possible, we will use advanced drilling techniques that allow us to avoid digging up large sections of the road, reducing noise and traffic delays.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make these important improvements. Once complete, this project will significantly reduce the chances of future water quality issues, providing a more reliable and improved service for everyone in the area.

For any questions or concerns during the project, please don’t hesitate to contact our customer service team. We will continue to update this web page as the work progresses.
