As part of an ongoing programme to improve our water supply network, we’re investing £350,000 to replace approximately 350m of old water main that runs along Queen’s Road, East Grinstead.
This project follows a main replacement in the town along Turners Hill Road and West Hill, which was completed a month early. It is required due to the number of bursts and will take place on Queen’s Road, between the junction with West Hill and Dallaway Gardens.
Work started on Monday 9 January, and is expected to take approximately 28 weeks to complete.
As a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, we will need to close Queen’s Road to undertake these works. Advanced warning signs will be in place along the road before it is closed. The diversion route, which has been agreed in conjunction with the local highways authority, will be clearly signed for the duration of the work. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

Work will be undertaken in two phases, and this will alter the direction you may need to take to access your property.
The car park will still be in use and the direction you will need to take from the exit may also change as work progresses along the road.

We do all we can to minimise disruption to motorists and the community when laying new water mains and always look to install pipes in locations which will cause the least disruption, such as grass verges and when in a road, as close to the verge as possible.
Due to the nature of the road and as a safety precaution for pedestrians, motorists and our workforce, we need to close Queen’s Road to through traffic while we carry out the work. Advanced warning signs will be in place along the road before it is closed, and a diversion route has been agreed with the local highways authority.
Work will take place during normal working hours, although there will also be some activities at weekends. Our team will work as quickly and as safely as possible.
Queen’s Road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the work. The direction you access your property will change as the work moves along the road.
Diversion routes, which have been agreed with Kent Highways, will be clearly signed for the duration of the work. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project.
We are aware that suspending parking bays will be disruptive. As such, we will be working in sections and returning the road to its original state before moving along to the next section. This will mean only a few parking bays at a time will be out of use.
Queensway Car Park is available before 8.00am and after 6.00pm and on Sundays, if parking restrictions impact your residence.
Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times, however there may be a short wait if we are working in front of your property.
As with all of our roadworks, we will always maintain access for emergency services.
The emergency services are briefed well in advance of any roadworks and are adept at making their own arrangements to find alternative routes. This is common practice.
As the work will require connections to the existing network, there will be a short interruption in supply. We will notify you well in advance when this is due to happen.

We’re pleased to say all new main has now been installed. We’ll be pressure testing the new pipe this week, after which we'll begin to transfer the remaining customer services to the new main. We'll also need to make a connection to the existing network.

Work continues to progress well along Queen's Road. We’ve now laid 327m of new pipeline and transferred 60 services to this new main. This week, will be returning the current working area to its original state and moving to the next 100m stretch.

Our working area has now progressed to the next 100m section, with the previous working area returned to its original state. Works are also taking place between 93 to 99 to transfer customer services to the new main. We appreciate the patience of Queen’s Road residents as we carry out this vital work.

We’ve now laid 130m of new water main which has been tested and commissioned. Once passed, we will start to transfer customer services in this section to the new pipework. This area will then be resurfaced and the area returned to its original state ahead of the working area moving along Queen’s Road.
