We’ve reviewed the work required at our drinking water storage tank in Charing improve fresh drinking water quality in and around the village.
Our original plan was to build a smaller storage tank to sit alongside the existing tank. However, the location and access to site has made this solution unfeasible.
Having revised our plans, we have reached a solution that allows us to complete a wider programme of reservoir maintenance projects across our supply area. This will mean five smaller 100m3 tanks being placed on site by helicopter.
Once in situ, the existing tank will be taken out of service for essential maintenance work. The five tanks will maintain customer supplies until the existing tank is back in service. They will then be removed by helicopter and taken to another site for the same purpose.
This work is currently planned to take place in early 2025. This page will be updated as work progresses.
FAQs
We need to carry out essential maintenance on our existing drinking water storage tank in Charing Hill. This tank holds fresh drinking water before it heads to our customers’ taps. In order to do this without interrupting supply, we’re going to place five additional 100m3 tanks by helicopter. Once these are in situ, we'll be able to take the existing tank out of service to carry out maintenance.
We are finalising the programme of works but are currently expecting to begin in early 2025.
We are not anticipating the need for any road closures, as all work will be contained within our existing site on Charing Hill.
There should be no interruption to your water supply. We will not be taking the existing storage tank out of service until the new tanks are on site and operational.
