Apprenticeships provide opportunities

Apprenticeships make it possible to change your career path at any point. Shelby tells her story of how she changed career paths with the help of South East Water.

Starting her career in recruitment and payroll, Shelby realised the unsociable hours and bringing work home wasn’t for her. She came across a procurement vacancy for South East Water in 2019 and decided to apply. Although she had not worked in procurement before, she had the skills necessary and was offered the role.

After settling in, she has since enrolled onto a level three Diploma in Procurement and Supply which she is on course to finish next year. She has already passed one exam and is due to sit two more.

Shelby said: “My role within the Procurement Department is to assist our specialists with anything from general administration, data entry, liaising with suppliers and internal staff, assisting with tender processes, arranging meetings and diary appointments, along with other duties.

“This course has allowed me to enhance my skills to eventually move up the ladder within South East Water.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given and I am excited to continue building a career within this fantastic company.”
