Apprenticeships give you opportunity to progress.
In the final year of Sixth Form, Craig decided he didn’t want to go to university, but instead, opted for experience in the work place.
Craig secured an apprenticeship with a mechanical engineering firm however, this didn’t come with any progression so he carried on searching and accepted an engineering apprenticeship with South East Water.
This started as working in the Reservoir Team and two years later, Craig (now 22) had worked with experienced people on his team, completed all his site safety training and finished his Level 3 Civil Engineering apprenticeship. He now works a project engineer.
Craig said: “Throughout my time at South East Water I have always worked in Engineering, specifically working in my specialist team. In my current role we help maintain our treatment process and the drinking water storage reservoirs.
“Last academic year I successfully completed my Level 3 Civil Engineering qualification and my Civil Engineering Technician End Point Assessment to achieve my qualification. Without this and the working experience I have gained at South East Water I wouldn’t be in the position within the business I am now.
“I will always be appreciative of the opportunities that have been given to me by South East Water, it has put me in the position to have go on and complete further courses to help further my career. Without this support and this apprenticeship scheme within the company I honestly don’t believe that I would be in such a prosperous career position I am today”.
