Appreciate apprenticeships as they are worthwhile

8th February 2022

Lewis’ interest in Engineering started in school where he studied Engineering at Level two and continued on to Level three in six form.

Once finished, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, so tried out multiple jobs before deciding to pursue an engineering career.

In 2018, Lewis applied for an apprenticeship with South East Water with no prior knowledge of the water industry and no experience of actually working in Engineering.

He has since completed his Level 3 Civil Engineering Diploma while working as an engineer in different departments. He is in his first of five year level six Civil Engineering apprenticeship while working as a technician, gaining a wider knowledge about the water industry.

Lewis said: “I have worked for South East Water for more than three years as part of the Engineering team. The company has offered me plenty of opportunity to develop and improve my skills and knowledge throughout the years.

“South East Water also supports my professional development with the Institution of Civil Engineers. This not only helps with my personal development, but helps me grow as a Civil Engineer within the industry.

“Understanding the water industry itself has been very interesting as I was amazed how complex and dynamic water treatment and distribution can be and I am looking forward to increasing my knowledge of the industry.”
